History
Where trade once thrived
Nestled between the rippling water of the Scheldt and the Bonapartedok, the past makes way for a new, elegant future. Previously a place for bananas and trade, today for balance and beauty.
The botanical legacy of this location lives on in Friendship Residence as a tribute to its history. The future here is bright and full of potassium potential. Here, the vibrant rhythm of the city merges with the calm of the water.
The banana as a cultural icon
In a place where the banana played the leading role for decades, the fruit now also asserts itself as a cultural icon. As a symbol of the sun, it has evolved into a world-renowned symbol in art, epitomised by Andy Warhol’s Banana (1967). The banana is therefore more than a fruit; it is a symbol of luxury, culture and pop art.
In the merging of luxury and artistic boldness, Friendship Residence finds its perfect emblem.
Architecture and design
A composition of timeless elegance
For the design of Friendship Residence, the Antwerp firm HUB Architects and the London‑based DRDH Architects joined forces. The result of this collaboration is a unique interplay of local sensitivity and international perspective.
Their vision translates into a contemporary ode to the historic warehouse architecture of Het Eilandje. Here, there is no division, but visual unity. A carefully composed ensemble, each with its own identity and atmosphere. Not only to live in, but above all to experience.
Bold by design, refined in detail
From the outside, Friendship Residence impresses immediately. High‑quality façades with green accents, refined detailing and generous window sections elevate the surrounding environment. Mineral materials were deliberately chosen to honour the location, ranging from the characteristic warehouse style to city buildings with brick accents.
You can feel that quality down to the smallest details from the moment you arrive. Through the luxurious entrance halls, you enter the buildings – a stylish transition from the city to your personal haven.
The inner garden
A hidden urban oasis
For the design of the spacious inner garden, renowned landscape architect Erik Dhont took the lead. With international projects and as laureate of the prestigious competition for the new palace gardens in Brussels, this firm guarantees a design of royal calibre.
The unmistakable charm of this hidden oasis invites you to slow down and experience. A lush interplay of flowers, shrubs and trees creates a sheltered space that briefly makes you forget the pace of the city. Natural stone paths lead you along a reflective pond that radiates serenity, with resting spots that tempt you to sit and enjoy sun and shade.
